Do Politicians Support the Military, or Are They All Talk?

Updated: Jun 30, 2020

The short answer…it depends on who you’re talking about.

We’ve all seen the military recruitment commercials oozing with connotations of honor and bad-assery?

Personally, I like those ads.

Seemingly everyone agrees that when somebody is willing to risk life, limb, and eyesight for our country, they’re worthy of being perceived with hero status.

YET POLITICS UNDERMINES THIS HONOR

The same politicians who give speeches about holding the military up on a pedestal, are the same ones turning a blind eye to the stripping away of the constitutional rights of those in the military.

Why?

Faced with the opportunity to promote a career-enhancing political agenda, some elected leaders are all too eager to throw our military members under the bus.

It’s almost as if they think nobody will notice the two-faced nature of the political game they are playing.

BUT WE ARE NOTICING YOUR HYPOCRISY. AND WE’RE CALLING YOU OUT!

Dear politician, here’s the rub you have to deal with:

The constitution either applies to all American’s, or it doesn’t.

The phrase “I support our troops” isn’t just something you say in a campaign speech or print on a t-shirt so you can garner votes or feel good about yourself.

It’s actions, not actors, that we’re paying attention to now.

LESS TALK AND MORE SUPPORT

Everyone and their mother wants to talk about how much they love the military, but nobody wants to talk about our broken military justice system--unfortunately, this also includes top military brass.

When some politicians (and some military commanders) are faced with questions about the multitude of problems with the military justice system, they turn a blind eye to the constitutional rights of our warriors, and always hide behind the same argument:

“We’re promoting ‘good order and discipline’” they say.

NO YOU’RE NOT

Dear reader, when you hear statements like this from senators or high ranking military officials, just remember that you’re listening to politicians.

Denying warriors the constitutional rights, which they risk their lives to protect, is not “good order and discipline.”

Just because politicians can disregard the constitution to those in uniform, that’s no excuse to deprive us of our God-given rights.

THE UGLY TRUTH ABOUT OUR MILITARY JUSTICE SYSTEM

In a recent case (Ramos vs Louisiana), the US Supreme Court ruled it is unconstitutional to allow juries to find someone guilty on anything less than an unanimous decision.

This brought the last two states (Louisiana and Oregon) that allowed 10-2 decisions, out of the stone-age.

Now all 50 states and federal courts comply with this true constitutional meaning of an impartial jury and require unanimous decisions.

Despite this, not only are military members not entitled to a jury of their peers, but the military has the only judiciary where you don’t need an unanimous jury to find someone guilty.

Why should this Supreme Court ruling not apply to the military?

Military tribunals are the only court system where you can be found guilty on a 2/3 vote with a jury comprising as little as 5 people.

How is it that those who raise their right hand to defend the constitution are not given the same rights as the average citizen?

Does this make sense to you?

Politicians, we are watching.

What do you stand for?

Please show us that you truly do support our troops!
